Festivals & Concerts
As an experienced festival and concert artist, Harry Harrison regularly performs and produces concert events around New Zealand performing shows for Christchurch International Jazz and Blues Festival, Christchurch Arts Festival, Nelson Arts Festival, Nelson, Tauranga and Queenstown Jazz Festivals. In addition to this are numerous performances with Auckland Philharmonia, Wellington Vector and Christchurch Symphony Orchestras, showcasing jazz and popular music.
Harry Harrison has produced a large body of jazz compositions spanning across styles from the avante-garde to post-bop, contemporary, ballads, jazz-funk and bossa. A range of work written for large and small jazz ensembles, symphony orchestra and solo guitar. Melodic lyricism set amongst adventurous harmony
and form, and a guitar style that shifts between warm classic jazz tones through to a contemporary overdriven, angular sound. One of Harry’s major achievements is the original composition ‘Last Light’ for Orchestra, vocalist and jazz rhythm section.
Since discovering the work of iconic New Zealand artist Len Lye, Harry has created a number of audio visual works. Abstract musical forms, expressionist
improvisations and textures inspired by images of New Zealand’s finest visual artists. These powerful works are performed live to film, creating a dazzling experience for the senses.
